Xiaomi Wireless Gesture-Enabled AR Glasses Introduced

The Chinese company Xiaomi at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023) in Barcelona introduced lightweight wireless augmented reality glasses called “Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition”. AR-glasses will be completed with a set of interchangeable optics and lenses for nearsightedness.

The developers were able to reduce the weight of the device to 126 grams. The weight reduction was achieved by using a lightweight magnesium-lithium alloy and carbon fiber along with a silicon-oxygen anode battery.

“Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition is a breakthrough in AR. The device supports wireless connection with minimal latency and gesture control. The display resembles the retina of the eye. Gesture control allows you to control the main functions of augmented reality glasses, ”said Lei Jun (CEO of Xiaomi).

The glasses are equipped with MicroOLED screens with a brightness of up to 1200 nits. The manufacturer managed to achieve a resolution of 58 pixels per degree. These figures are close to what the human eye can perceive. Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition comes with a set of interchangeable optics, and special lenses are provided for nearsighted users.

Electrochromic lenses are sensitive to light. In the process of viewing content, the lenses are able to adapt to the light and darken. The rest of the time, transparent mode is used. The temples of the goggles do not fold.

Performance is provided by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 processor. To run the glasses, you need to connect them to any smartphone that runs on a Snapdragon chip. Before connecting, you need to download a special application. Additionally, the package includes a control panel. The functions of the glasses can be controlled using gestures that are recognized by the cameras. Spatial audio can be connected to the glasses.

Other specifications are yet to be revealed, including the cost of the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition. The manufacturer did not even announce a release date.
